RECORDING Floral Design Workshop

Watch the recording of a festive, hands-on workshop to create beautiful, foam-free holiday arrangements using seasonal evergreens and foraged elements.

This is a one-hour session, floral designer Erin Shackelford guides you through the essentials of  floral design, learning practical techniques and tips to make the most of the materials at hand. You'll learn how to incorporate natural add-ons, such as dried flowers, herbs, pinecones, and other holiday embellishments, to bring your arrangements to life.

About Erin:

Erin Shackelford is owner of Camas Designs, a wedding and event floral design company located on San Juan Island, WA.  Erin spent over twenty years working in the field of human resources for various medical and biotech companies.  At the height of her career, Erin shocked many, including herself, by walking away.  In 2016, she formed Camas Designs and allowed her passion for floral design to become her career.  She has since provided floral designs for weddings and events from California to Seattle but mostly in the beautiful set of islands she now calls home, the San Juan’s.  Erin’s passion is flowers and their ability to convey feeling, emotions and meanings beyond the realm of words. After most events, Erin deconstructs centerpieces and creates small bouquets which she gifts, mostly anonymously, around her community.  She calls it her #flowerbomb4love project with the goal of bringing a smile within an often-crazy world.  Erin lives with her husband, their Newfoundland dog, Koda and various barn cats on San Juan Island, WA.

Why Use Bouquet Tags!

Declaring your intent. Some of our team members simply state, “I’m a member of The Growing Kindness Project and our mission is to spread kindness. I grew (or gathered) these flowers (or greens) and I’d like to give them to you as a gift.”

We’ve found that adding a bouquet tag, making it clear your kindness is a gift, no strings attached, is another simple way to ensure your gift is accepted as it is intended.

Five years ago, Ganjana was a client at a local food bank where hundreds of Growing Kindness Holiday Cheer arrangements were donated.

Along with her box of holiday meal ingredients, she received a small centerpiece with a Growing Kindness bouquet tag attached. She was so moved by the gift that she immediately signed up to become a Growing Kindness Gardener. At that point in her life, Ganjana had been struggling with a debilitating anxiety disorder and had never grown anything. Through the project, she learned to grow flowers, made friends with GK teammates, gifted flowers and slowly, steadily healed and grew. Ganjana shares, “Because of Growing Kindness, I’m not just surviving, I’m thriving.”

Her story reminds us the power of connection and how a simple little tag can connect another to the hope and joy of growing and giving flowers and being part of a like-minded community of women.
