Ambassador FAQ’s
Can I participate as an Ambassador if I don’t live in the United States?
We were thrilled to begin welcoming applicants outside of the US beginning in 2023.
I am a backyard gardener. Do Ambassadors need to be flower farmers or floral designers?
Our hope is to inspire and lead all gardeners in growing a cut flower garden, whether you’ve never planted a seed or you’re a master gardener. No experience is required, just an eagerness to learn!
Can you have a flower business and be an Ambassador?
Yes! We love it when flower farmers and florists bring their experience to the project! If you operate a flower based business, we simply ask that you make it very clear for your customers and community that any flowers you donate are given freely and without expectation of financial gain or as a promotional strategy for your business.
Can I collect donations for the flowers I share?
We ask that Ambassadors not solicit donations for the flowers they share. However, over the years we have found that as people learn about the project, they’re often inspired to contribute financially. We ask that Ambassadors direct interested donors directly to the Growing Kindness website. Donations received go directly towards providing scholarships for under-resourced team members, assist with our non-profit legal fees, as well as help with our operating costs for keeping the project going.
I have very little gardening space. How much growing space do I need?
We always say, “start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can.” Same goes for planting a cut flower garden. Ambassadors have access to garden starter kits through the project and are invited to plant as many flowers as they have time and space to grow. We encourage you to grow as many flowers as you have time and space for!
Am I required to have a social media page to be an Ambassador?
Nope! While having social media adds another layer of connection within the GK community, it is in no way required. If you have an account, we encourage you to share your happy stories of giving flowers on social media because the world sure could use more happy stories! Whether you share on social media or otherwise, we do require that all Ambassadors actively seek opportunities to frequently share the mission of the project and promote it within their circle and community.
Is there a required time commitment? I’m apt to over-promise.
We totally understand! And we love your intention for setting realistic goals!
Ambassadors are required to:
Attend two, two-hour Workshops at the beginning and end of their Ambassador year. Workshops are offered one Saturday morning and include gardening education, team building, project updates and leadership.
We never ask for a specific commitment to share a certain number of bouquets, but encourage you to set a “stretch” goal for yourself to stay committed to sharing flowers as often as you’re able in your community, whether that’s 10 bouquets over the summer or ten a week during the growing season. Our hope is simply that you commit to growing and giving flowers in kindness this year.
Be an official representative of the project and help to spread the Growing Kindness mission by sharing about our mission and inviting others to join the team. (We provide resources and support you need to make this easy!)
Ambassadors are encouraged to:
Attend quarterly Master Classes (in person or replay) for gardening and floral design education. (Included in membership)
Participate regularly in our private community forum discussions.
What’s the difference between Ambassador and Gardener roles?
In a nutshell, Ambassadors receive a higher level of support, including access to our online community, The Greenhouse, where we provide coaching and education for gardening and giving as well as support and connection. Ambassadors make a year long commitment to growing and sharing flowers and leading as official representatives of the project. Ambassadors are required to attend workshops and help promote the project by inviting members and sharing important launches. Gardeners also have access to our online community, but do not serve in a representative role and do not have access to leadership training within the project.
How long do I serve as an Ambassador?
Ambassadors serve a one year term from March-March. After being selected and completing one year as an Ambassador, you are eligible to re-enroll as an Ambassador each year.
Is there a cost to become an Ambassador?
Yes. And no. Ambassadors pay a one time $269 enrollment fee. However, it's so very important to us that resources are available to everyone, which is why we offer financial need scholarships to cover the cost of the enrollment fee. Scholarship information is announced two weeks prior to enrollment opening.
